While a tiny inconvenience compared to what so many other folks have been through, has anyone actually managed to get any observing done in Sydney over the last few months? Between bushfire smoke and weather it's been pretty tricky to say the least. From a little while ago, here's a well-used 7 or 8 year old Sky-Watcher Fletxtube 250mm (10") Collapsible Dobsonian happily still out capturing starlight near Como, south of Sydney. Hopefully the skies will clear soon.

Handy info for anyone in QLD wanting to head off to a star-party!We've decided to schedule 2 star parties a month. The primary "star party" falls closest to a new Moon. The additional "StarBQ" night will be held a week before the new Moon. The StarBQ nights will have a Moon rising late at night, so we will still be able to get a few hours of astronomy in. The locations will be posted up as we get approval from the land owners.
This week's Sky-Watcher image of the week is from David Moulton and taken with a Sky-Watcher 250mm (10") Quattro f4 imaging reflector. Total exposure was 2.5 hours.
It's of NCG 3575, also know as the Statue of Liberty Nebula. Unlike many names in astronomy, this nickname was only suggested and came into use just a few years ago.
NCG 3575 is an interesting region of intense star generation. Over 30 large stars at the end of their initial formation have been identified in the presence of complex carbon molecules called PAHs. Such PAHs are thought to have been in the nebula where the Sun formed and may have played an important in the formation of life on Earth.
